A new documentary which will be screened this week will give Saint Johners a new insight into the growing relationship between the Port City and China.
In the fall Saint John filmmaker Greg Hemmings of HitMedia travelled with the delegation of city officials and business people to China and documented the experience in his new film Chasing the Sun - an East Meets West Trade Mission. The film will be shown Wednesday at the New Brunswick Museum theatre.
"I saw a good opportunity for HitMedia to go see if there is any possible video production partnerships in China," said Mr. Hemmings, who added however a trip to China on their own wasn’t in the budget. However, thanks to making the documentary and with the help of friend Mike Tilley and CANLink Global, he was able to go.
The documentary is 52 minutes and Mr. Hemmings is hoping to shop it to the CBC.
"I really wanted to screen in Saint John," he said, adding he hoped the documentary will show city residents the value of the trip.
Mr. Hemmings described the trip and the documentary as being "somewhat of an adventure story." The film also has its share of fun, he said, particularly with a sequences showing the delegates enjoying karaoke at a local establishment.
He thoroughly enjoyed the trip and the making of the documentary, which he’s been working on since November, he said.
"After the trip I realized it was a fantastic investment."
